NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) today congratulated the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) for being recognized as a 2024–25 Top 50 CLEP® High School, one of only 50 schools nationwide to earn the honor and the only public school in Orleans Parish included on the list.

The award, presented by the College Board, honors schools whose students earned the highest number of college credits through CLEP exams during the 2024–25 academic year. CLEP, short for the College-Level Examination Program, allows high school students to demonstrate mastery of college-level subjects and earn credit accepted by more than 3,000 colleges and universities across the country.

“This recognition shows what’s possible when schools are empowered to focus on preparing students for real life and for success in college and career,” said Caroline Roemer, Executive Director of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools. “We honor the students, families, and faculty for building a school community where young people truly thrive. At NOMMA, cadets aren’t just studying to pass tests; they’re gaining the knowledge, discipline, and confidence to succeed long after graduation. That’s what education excellence looks like, measurable results for every student. Parents deserve results they can see.”

NOMMA’s students earned among the highest number of college credits in the nation through CLEP exams, reflecting the school’s commitment to accountability, innovation, and student success. Thirty-two additional Louisiana schools, public and private, were also recognized, underscoring the state’s growing leadership in college readiness.

“Public charter schools like NOMMA are proving that when educators are empowered and students are challenged, excellence follows,” Roemer added. “This honor is more than a ranking, it’s a reminder that effective schools change lives and strengthen communities.”

The 2024–25 academic year marks the inaugural launch of the Top 50 CLEP High School Achievement Awards, celebrating schools that expand access to college credit and accelerate students’ pathways to higher education.
