Certified Louisiana Charter School Business Administrator Program

Get Certified with LAPCS

BESE Bulletin 126 requires that all public school business managers who do not hold an active CPA license complete an approved business administrator certification within 3 years of the hire date.  In 2024, LAPCS was approved to provide this certification as an alternate to LASBO, which was previously the only option.  In the spring of 2025, we received final approval for the program and curriculum. 

Requirements for Certification 

  • Must be an active member of LAPCS

  • Complete 80 hours of approved education credits within three years prior to application for certification

  • Must directly manage 3 or more functional areas, and 12 specialized areas (see application details)

  • Must report directly to the Head of School or Head Finance Official, or work for an education provider 

  • Letter of recommendation from the Head of School/Principal or Board President

  • Education Requirements

    • 3 years of experience in a lead business administrator position and master's degree (or CPA) from an accredited college or university

    • 4 years of experience in a lead business administrator position and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

    • 4 years of experience in a lead business administrator position and no degree

Requirements for Transfer/Reactivation/Renewal

  • Must be an active member of LAPCS

  • Must provide proof of previous Certified School Business certification (LASBO)

  • Must directly manage 3 or more functional areas, and 12 specialized areas (see application details)

  • Must report directly to the Head of School or Head Finance Official, or work for an education provider 

  • Letter of recommendation from the Head of School/Principal or Board President or Direct Supervisor for third party provider staff.

  • Continuing Education Requirements

    • Demonstrate active employment with an LEA or education service provider during the time period of lapsed certification

    • Complete 25 hours of approved education credits within 1 year

Eligible Credits

  • Credits may be earned through the existing Bottom Line Program Conferences

    • Each Bottom Line Conference provides 12 hours of credit

  • Credits may be earned through attending the Annual LAPCS Conference

    • The annual conference provides 6 hours of credit

  • Credits may be earned through attending special sessions (in-person and webinars)

  • At least 50% of credits must be obtained through the LAPCS program

  • Up to 50% of the required credits may have been earned in the previous three years.

  • If an organization is not listed below, please contact the LAPCS staff for pre-approval.
