Message from the Executive Director: August 2017

Hope everyone had the chance to experience the Solar Eclipse this week and I hope it marks the beginning of an astronomical 2017-18 school year! Speaking of major events, on September 5th LAPCS and the Type 2 charter community will be before the Louisiana Supreme Court for the case brought by the teachers union and a school district challenging both the public nature and funding of these schools. Our legal team and policy experts at LAPCS are working tirelessly to prepare as we ask the Court to side with our Type 2 charter schools and the communities they serve. This decision is important not just for those schools and families directly impacted across the state, but for all charter schools and those who advocate for and believe in parent choice when it comes to public education. There is no specific deadline for the ruling to be made, but it could come as early as October. We’ll keep everyone informed as we get more information about the case.

Regards,

Caroline
