Our Collective Voice is Needed
The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools wants to express our sadness and outrage at the brutality that has caused the senseless deaths of so many unarmed black men and women, most recently George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. As we advocate for students and schools, we are responsible for raising our voices in support of school communities and continuing to work towards eradicating systems that have historically disempowered and disenfranchised black students.
Our school communities have been directly impacted by racism and discrimination, and we are committed to using our collective voices to stand up and speak out alongside the black community.
The vision of LAPCS is to ensure that all students have the opportunity to meet their full potential. We believe that when you support schools that put students first, give parents a voice and choice in their student’s education, hire and develop passionate, experienced teachers, and fight for the funding and resources schools need to serve students, we get closer to meeting our mission.
We stand in solidarity with black students and families. To live in a truly equitable world, we must honor the full humanity and value of our black communities. Black lives matter. Each one of us has a responsibility to lead conversations and evoke change needed to provide equal rights and treatment of our families.
