Board Member Focus: Marcus Alexander, International School of Louisiana


What makes your school special or unique? ISL is a French/Spanish language immersion school teaching different cultures and languages to our kids and preparing them academically and socially to be more diverse citizens.

Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? I believed in their mission and the CEO’s track record to improve the students’ academic standings under her leadership and the overall organizational culture with staff members.

How did you become involved with your school? I was referred by the Vice President of the Board at the time because of my knowledge of business and mental health as well as my love for the community in which I live.

What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? I have been on the board for 2 years and I am the Governance Committee Chair as well as the Board Secretary. I am also serving on the Finance Committee.

What’s your Superpower? My biggest superpower is the ability to see everyone’s point of view in order to make the most informed decision possible while ensuring all sides are being heard and valued.

How can people help your school if they are interested? There are several ways ranging from charity, fundraising, volunteering and referring great talent.
