Board Member Focus: Aaron Jackson, Jr., Algiers Charter School Association

Why did you choose to serve on your school’s board? Personal growth and development through education has always been an important part of my life. Through the efforts of my family to educate themselves and us, I always had a strong example of the impact education can have not only on an individual, but entire communities. Because of that, being of service to my community on a charter school board enabled me to positively effectuate change in the outcomes of so many lives.

How did you become involved with your school? Some time ago I participated in the Board Bank, a program facilitated by LAPCS. This program provided me with insight about the manner in which charter schools operated, and the very real need for individuals from the community to lend their hearts and hats in service of the children and families of New Orleans. During that time, it was brought to my attention that Algiers Charter School Association was seeking prospective board members. Being an Algiers resident, ACSA just made sense. Not soon after I was sworn in as a board member.

What leadership roles have you had while serving on the board? Since joining the board of Algiers Charter School Association , I have served as the Chairperson of the Academic Committee, and currently serve as the Board President.

How can people help your school if they are interested? Algiers Charter School Association is always looking for ways in which we can advance the mission of the organization and provide the best possible educational experience to all who come through our doors. Should anyone or organization wish to support these efforts, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 504-302-7001.
